Albert Montillo is an Associate Professor in the Lyda Hill Department of Bioinformatics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern). He holds secondary appointments in Radiology, the Advanced Imaging Research Center, and Biomedical Engineering. He directs the Deep Learning for Precision Health Lab, focusing on advancing theory and applications of deep learning for healthcare, particularly in neuroimaging and multimodal data analysis.
Montillo's education includes a Ph.D. in Medical Image Analysis and Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.S. in Computer and Information Science from the same institution, and a B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Cognitive Neuroscience from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). His research spans trustworthy AI, causal analysis, and clinical applications in neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders.
He has supervised numerous students across UT Southwestern, Southern Methodist University, UT Dallas, and UT Arlington, teaching courses such as Machine Learning and Python Bootcamp. His lab’s work includes developing algorithms for brain parcellation, artifact removal in MEG, and predictive models for diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Key projects involve multimodal data fusion, causal discovery, and sample-efficient learning.
Montillo has industry experience at Microsoft Research, GE Research, and the Harvard/MIT Martinos Center. His lab collaborates with departments including Neurology, Psychiatry, and Radiology, supported by federal grants and institutional funding. The lab’s goals include improving diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment planning through AI-driven insights.
