Albert Furrer headed ETH Zurich's Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and received professor title in 1989. Research applied neutron scattering to study condensed matter systems, specializing in high-temperature superconductivity and magnetic materials. Retired in 2005 after directing the laboratory for 21 years.
Authored over 300 scientific publications through collaborations with universities and industrial laboratories. Served on ETH Zurich Research Commission (1984-1992) and as President of Swiss Society for Neutron Scattering (1991-1997). Education includes mathematics and physics from ETH Zurich and postdoctoral research at Riso National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
