Prof. Andrey Zheludev is a Full Professor at the Department of Physics, ETH Zurich, leading the Laboratorium für Festkörperphysik. He specializes in experimental quantum materials research, focusing on magnetic systems using neutron scattering and muon spectroscopy. Zheludev holds a Master’s degree from Moscow’s Kapitza Institute and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1991), and a PhD in Physics from Université Joseph Fourier, Grenoble (1995). His career includes roles at Brookhaven and Oak Ridge National Laboratories (USA) and heading the PSI Neutron Scattering Lab (Switzerland, 2009–2010). He received the 2000 Presidential Early Career Award for quantum magnetism research.
His research explores collective quantum states, excitations, and phase transitions in materials like quantum spin chains, kagome lattices, and multiferroics. Key tools include inelastic neutron scattering and muon spectroscopy. Recent work addresses spin supersolids, quantum criticality, and dielectric relaxation in magnetic systems. Zheludev’s contributions span high-impact studies on frustrated magnets and pressure-induced quantum phase transitions.
Awards:
