Albert D. Pionke is a Professor of English at the University of Alabama, where he also serves as the William and Margaret Going Endowed Professor of English and Associate Dean of General Education and Academic Affairs. He specializes in 19th-Century British Literature, Digital Humanities, and Critical Theory, with a focus on Victorian cultural, imperial, and intellectual history.
His editorial projects include sole editorship of the Victorians Institute Journal and co-editorship of Digital Studies in Language and Literature. He has published extensively on Victorian fiction, nonfiction prose, and poetry, with a particular interest in marginalia analysis through the Mill Marginalia Online project.

Pionke’s research spans Victorian bibliography, pedagogy, and digital scholarship, with grants from the Andrew W. His collaborative work with the Alabama Digital Humanities Center focuses on digitizing John Stuart Mill’s marginalia.
