Albert Barberan is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the College of Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Barcelona, Spain, and has held prior positions at the University of California, Davis (2016-2017) and the University of Colorado, Boulder (2013-2016). His research focuses on microbial macroecology, microbial community assembly, and the impacts of environmental changes on soil and dust-associated microbiomes.
Barberan's work spans arid ecosystems, urbanization effects, invasive species impacts, and dust-mediated microbial dispersal. He has received prestigious awards including the James S. McDonnell Postdoctoral Fellowship (2013) and the Best PhD Dissertation Award from the University of Barcelona (2012). His teaching includes courses on environmental systems, data analysis with R, and directed research in ecology and environmental sciences.
Recent publications highlight his exploration of microbial responses to drought, invasive plants, and anthropogenic disturbances.
