Ifo Institute - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munichمعرفی
Dr. Alastair Langtry serves as an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) at the University of Bristol, where he conducts research in microeconomic theory with particular emphasis on economic and social networks, political economy, and conspicuous consumption behavior. He maintains strong connections to his alma mater, the University of Cambridge, where he completed both his undergraduate studies at Queen's College and his PhD.
His research program focuses on developing theoretical frameworks to understand non-market behaviors, with his recent work presenting a novel model of conspicuous consumption that reconciles previously conflicting empirical observations by incorporating identity groups as a key mechanism. During June 2025, he will serve as a Visiting Researcher at the CESifo/ifo Institute, where he will advance his research on the spread of social norms through networks.
Dr. Langtry's theoretical contributions in microeconomics demonstrate how network structures influence economic behavior, with particular applications to understanding status signaling, social norm diffusion, and political economy questions. His work bridges traditional economic theory with insights from sociology and network science to develop more comprehensive models of human behavior.
