Alastair Bennett is a Senior Lecturer in Medieval Literature at Royal Holloway, University of London, specializing in late medieval English literature and devotional culture. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2009) and has taught at Canterbury Christ Church University before joining Royal Holloway in 2012.
His research focuses on intersections between medieval literature and religious practices, with notable works on William Langland’s Piers Plowman and Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. He co-edits the Yearbook of Langland Studies and is involved in major projects like the Piers Plowman Electronic Archive.
Bennett has received multiple teaching awards, including the College Excellence Teaching Prize (2022), and actively contributes to academic networks such as the London Old and Middle English Seminar (LOMERS). His current projects explore medieval attention and distraction in material books.
