Dr. Alasdair Pinkerton is Reader in Geopolitics (Associate Professor) and Visiting Professor at Royal Holloway's Department of Geography. His research explores intersections of popular culture, foreign policy, and state power.
Research focuses on three themes: 1) Geopolitics of media/communications, especially radio as diplomatic instrument; 2) 'No Man's Land' geographies; 3) Brexit impacts on UK Overseas Territories. Pinkerton has secured £500k+ in grants and serves as accredited observer for the Falkland Islands referendum.
He publishes in Political Geography, Journal of War and Culture Studies, and authored 'Radio: Making Waves in Sound' (Reaktion/Science Museum). His work contributes to UN SDGs through studies of small state governance and post-colonial sovereignty.
