Alanna Peebles

Dr. Alanna Peebles is Assistant Professor in the School of Journalism and Media Studies at San Diego State University. Her research examines digital media's impact on youth development, with emphasis on media literacy, generative AI, and mental health communication. She investigates how emerging technologies reshape learning, identity formation, and social connection across developmental stages.

Peebles analyzes parental mediation strategies for internet use, immersive technologies in education, and representations in children's media. Her recent work explores AI literacy challenges, VR-enhanced intercultural communication, and social media visibility tradeoffs. Studies include thematic analysis of online discussions about media representations and large-scale surveys of youth media consumption patterns.
