Alanna M. Breen serves as Senior Lecturer and Director of the Portuguese Program within the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of South Carolina's College of Arts and Sciences. She teaches diverse Spanish and Portuguese courses including specialized Portuguese for IMBAs and led the Spanish study abroad program in Costa Rica (2014).
Her educational background includes:

Prof. Breen's research centers on trauma recovery through literature, examining evolving perceptions of memory and history since Spain's Civil War. Her work bridges language acquisition, narrative processing, and Hispanic literary studies, with presentations at national conferences on trauma narration and linguistic processing.
She received the Excellence in Teaching Award for Portuguese during her first semester and developed over 200 specialized grammar resources for Portuguese instruction.
Prof. Breen actively promotes student success and program visibility while advancing the university's mission of 'Challenging the conventional' through language education initiatives.
