Dr. Alanna Alevropoulos-Borrill is a Research Fellow at the Antarctic Research Centre of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her work focuses on numerical ice sheet modeling to project Antarctic Ice Sheet evolution and global sea level rise impacts.
- BSc and MSc - University of Bristol, UK
- PhD - Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (2019-2022)
Research interests include:
- Ice-ocean interactions and climate feedbacks
- Antarctic ice sheet tipping points and instability
- Impacts of evolving ice sheets on global climate
- Dynamic ice sheet modeling
- Numerical representation of ice streams
Recent research trends examine ocean-driven basal melting impacts on West Antarctic ice streams, scenario-dependent sea level projections, and lithospheric uplift's role in ice sheet evolution. Her work combines CMIP5 climate models with BISICLES ice sheet simulations.
Scientific funding:
- Project Grant (2024-2025): Investigating lithospheric uplift effects on Antarctic Ice Sheet evolution
Public engagement includes outreach activities and media coverage of Antarctic-related sea level rise research.
