Alan Richardson is a Professor and Distinguished University Scholar at the Department of Philosophy, University of British Columbia (UBC). He holds affiliations as an Associate at the Peter Wall Institute of Advanced Studies (PWIAS) and Faculty Fellow at Green College. His research focuses on the history of philosophy of science, post-Kantian philosophy-science relations, and science/technology studies. Richardson specializes in early 20th-century philosophy of science and its integration within analytic philosophy.
Education: Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Illinois–Chicago.
Research interests include the history of logical empiricism, the Vienna Circle, and interdisciplinary analysis of science and technology. His work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary debates in epistemology and philosophy of science.
Key publications include Objectivity in Science (2015), The Cambridge Companion to Logical Empiricism (2007), and foundational texts on Carnap and logical empiricism. Presentations span topics like Thomas Kuhn’s Structure of Scientific Revolutions and pragmatism historiography.
He teaches courses on the history of philosophy and serves on academic committees. His work emphasizes methodological rigor and interdisciplinary dialogue in philosophical inquiry.
