Alan Nash is a Professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University. He holds a PhD in Historical Geography from the University of Cambridge and previously served as a Junior Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield. Affiliated with Concordia's School of Community and Public Affairs and the Montreal Institute of Genocide Studies, he has twice chaired his department and was Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Association of Geographers.
His research explores cultural geography through projects on gravestone design diffusion in Iceland/Caribbean and Montreal's restaurant evolution. Key interests include:
- Cultural & historical geography
- Food systems and ethnic cuisine
- Immigration and refugee studies
- Population geography and urban landscapes
Publications frequently examine cultural diffusion patterns, combining historical analysis with contemporary urban studies. Recent works focus on Montreal's culinary scene, environmental refugees, and transnational gravestone iconography, reflecting sustained interest in material culture and spatial narratives.
He supervises graduate and undergraduate researchers, with recent projects covering:

- Haitian refugee narratives in Montreal
- Filipina caregiver integration
- Farm-to-university food systems
- Community-supported agriculture
