Dr. Alan Mobley is an Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University (SDSU), within the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. He also serves as Associate Director of the Institute for Dialogue and Social Justice and Founding Director of the Center for Transformative Justice. His roles include leadership in Project Rebound, a program supporting formerly incarcerated students, and the CSU Project Rebound Consortium.
Education:

Research Interests: Dr. Mobley specializes in prisoner reentry, restorative and transformative justice, penal policy reform, and the sociological impacts of mass incarceration. His work bridges academia and practice, emphasizing community-based solutions and policy advocacy. Recent focus areas include racial disparities in reentry, trauma-informed approaches, and global justice frameworks.
Grants & Awards: Notable grants include leadership in $3.3M CSU Project Rebound Consortium initiatives (2019–2021) and a $3M Renewing Communities Grant (2016–2018). Awards include multiple Most Influential Faculty Awards (2007, 2009, 2017) and Exceptional Service Awards (2018, 2020).
Labs & Initiatives: Directs the Center for Transformative Justice and oversees Project Rebound, which supports formerly incarcerated students. Collaborates internationally on prison council projects in Rwanda, Finland, and Australia, emphasizing cross-cultural justice solutions.
