Alan Meades

Professor Alan Meades is a faculty member at Canterbury Christ Church University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education under the School of Creative Arts and Industries. With over two decades of experience, he has developed and led numerous game design programs, including Games Design, Graphic Design, and Web Design.

His research spans video game studies, focusing on British arcade culture and counterplay behaviors. He has authored two influential publications: Understanding Counterplay in Video Games (2015) and Arcade Britannia (2022), the latter tied to a digital/VR recreation of 1980s arcades.

He has delivered international lectures at institutions like Stanford University and New York University, collaborated with industry leaders such as SEGA and BACTA, and directed the Nic Costa Archive for arcade heritage preservation.
