Alan Lizarraga is a Laboratory Technical Supervisor, Lecturer, and Research Scientist at The University of Texas at Tyler since 2016. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Biology from the same institution. As Principal Investigator of the Snake Fungal Disease Laboratory, his research focuses on Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola, the pathogen causing snake fungal disease (SFD), examining its prevalence, transmission, and ecological impacts on reptilian populations. He manages laboratory operations and mentors students in biology, herpetology, field research methods, and disease ecology.
His work contributes to understanding disease dynamics in reptiles and supports conservation efforts. He leads a dedicated research lab and maintains infrastructure for faculty, researchers, and students.
