Dr Alan Lewis is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Manchester, specializing in the intersection of government policy and architectural practice. His work focuses on aging populations, housing design, and building impacts on occupant health.

His research emphasizes creating design guidance for social and extra-care housing, addressing challenges like visual impairment accessibility, daylighting optimization, and climate-adaptive care provision. Key projects include the EVOLVE tool for evaluating older people’s living environments and the PARC study on antimicrobial resistance in cystic fibrosis clinics.
