Alan Kay

Alan Kay is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on the biophysical mechanisms underlying ion and water fluxes in nervous systems, with particular emphasis on the sodium pump's role in cell volume stabilization and the interplay between ion transporters, impermeant molecules, and the Donnan effect. He collaborates with Dr. Dan Eberl to study sensory transduction in Drosophila antennae and pioneered the innovative goggatomy technique for exposing live cells in arthropods.
