Alan John Faulkner-Jones is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, serving as Senior Programme Director/Global Head of Mechanical Engineering since 2023. Previously, he led the Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) programmes in Engineering and Data Science. He holds a MEng (2010) and PhD (2015) in Robotics & Cybertronics and Bioprinting from Heriot-Watt University. His research focuses on micro-scale 3D bioprinting of human pluripotent stem cells for drug development and personalized medicine, conducted in the Biomedical Microengineering Group at the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering. He spent a month as a visiting scholar at Tsinghua University (Beijing) in 2015 testing novel biomaterials.

He actively engages in academic activities, speaking at events like the Additive Manufacturing & 3D Printing conference (2015) and contributing to policy discussions via publications cited by 4 policy sources. His lab affiliations include the Biomedical Microengineering Group and collaborations with Tsinghua University.
