Professor Alain Verbeke is a Professor of International Business and Strategy holding the McCaig Research Chair in Management at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary, where he serves as Research Director of the Strategy and Organization Area. He is also the Inaugural Alan M Rugman Memorial Fellow at Henley Business School and an elected Fellow of the Academy of International Business.
Dr. Verbeke's research focuses on extensions of internalization theory, transaction cost economics, and dynamic capabilities, applied to multinational enterprises, subsidiary specific advantage, and firm and country specific advantages. He investigates international business phenomena including family firm internationalization, regional integration impacts on entry modes, and emerging economy multinational growth.
His notable scientific awards include:
- Inaugural Alan M Rugman Memorial Fellow (2014)
- Fellow of the Academy of International Business
- Royal Society of Canada Fellow (2024)
Dr. Verbeke has directed over 100 strategic management consulting projects addressing governance challenges in large-scale investment programs.
