Alain Aspect

Alain Aspect is a full professor holding the Augustin Fresnel Chair at the Institut d'Optique Graduate School (Paris-Saclay University), professor at École Polytechnique (Institut Polytechnique de Paris), and emeritus research director at CNRS. He leads research at the Charles Fabry Laboratory's Quantum Gases group. Education includes ENS Cachan and University of Orsay.

His experimental research focuses on fundamental quantum phenomena including Bell inequality tests with entangled photons, wave-particle duality demonstrations, laser cooling techniques, and quantum gas manipulation. His work established key foundations for quantum technologies like cryptography and computing.

Publications consistently explore quantum foundations, atomic physics, and quantum optics, with recent work advancing quantum simulation using ultracold atoms and matter wave localization in disordered systems.
