Alain Algazi

Dr. Alain Algazi is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), specializing in medical oncology for head and neck cancers, thyroid cancers, and salivary gland cancers. He leads UCSF's medical therapy program for head and neck cancers and chairs the head and neck cancer research committee. His research focuses on clinical trials evaluating novel immunotherapies and strategies to improve long-term remission in incurable cancers.

Dr. Algazi earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, completed internal medicine residency at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, and a hematology-oncology fellowship at UCSF. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, and American Association for Cancer Research.

His research encompasses immunotherapy mechanisms, including PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors, combination therapies, and biomarker studies. Notable contributions include trials investigating durvalumab, tremelimumab, and pembrolizumab in head and neck cancers, as well as studies on tumor immune profiling and regional lymph node dynamics.
