Dr. Ala Sirriyeh is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Lancaster University, part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He specializes in youth migration, activism, and emotions, with a focus on refugee young people and anti-racist movements. His research examines agency in repressive contexts, immigration enforcement, and compassionate discourses in policy.
Since 2015, he has led projects on undocumented youth activism in California (via Santander and Leverhulme grants) and co-led research on decolonial student activism in England (funded by The Sociological Review and BA/Leverhulme). He co-authored The Politics of Compassion (2018) and Inhabiting Borders, Routes Home (2013/2016).

- Co-convenor of the Lancaster University Migration Research Collective and Sanctuary Network.
- Member of the Centre of Alternatives to Social and Economic Inequalities (CASEI) and the Social Action Research Group.
- Co-hosts the podcast Who Do We Think We Are? Beyond the Headlines, analyzing global migration news.
His current projects include studies on British child migrants and foster care policies across Europe. He supervises PhD students focusing on migration, refugees, and youth studies.
