Akira Terui is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He holds a Ph.D. in Ecosystem Studies from the University of Tokyo and teaches courses including Aquatic Ecology and Biostatistics. His research focuses on aquatic ecosystems using quantitative approaches to study spatial ecology.
Research interests include river network complexity, context-dependent dispersal, and cross-system trophic interactions. His work combines theoretical models with statistical and field-based methods to understand fundamental ecological processes.
Recent publications demonstrate strong themes in spatial ecology, biodiversity scaling, and metapopulation dynamics in aquatic systems. His articles frequently appear in high-impact journals like PNAS, exploring ecological stability and riverine biodiversity patterns.
Dr. Terui leads the AquatiQuE research group investigating scale-invariant river complexity and behavioral aspects of species dispersal. His NSF-funded projects focus on river network geometry and ecosystem connectivity.
