Akil Fletcher is Lecturer in the Council of the Humanities and Anthropology at Princeton University, and Cotsen Postdoctoral Fellow in the Society of Fellows. His research examines race, identity, and community formation in digital gaming spaces.

His scholarship intersects anthropology, African American studies, and game studies to analyze how Black gamers create community and negotiate identity in online gaming environments while navigating systemic racism. Current projects investigate 'Black worlding' practices and VR's impact on racial perception.
Publications develop critical frameworks for understanding racial dynamics in gaming ecosystems, documenting community-building strategies that counter exclusionary practices in mainstream gaming platforms.
Fellowships include the National Science Foundation GRFP and Dissertation Improvement Grant. He teaches 'Gaming Blackness: The Anthropology of Video Games and Race', exploring race representation through anthropological frameworks.
