Japanese violinist Akiko Suwanai serves as a Lecturer at Berlin University of the Arts' Faculty of Music within the Institute for Artistic Training - Orchestral Instruments and Conducting. Renowned as the youngest winner of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (1990), she maintains a flourishing international career performing with premier orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and NHK Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Seiji Ozawa.
Her artistic profile centers on masterful interpretations of both canonical and contemporary repertoire, with notable premieres of concertos by Peter Eötvös, James MacMillan, and Krzysztof Penderecki. As a dedicated chamber musician, she collaborates at festivals including Martha Argerich Festival and Leif Ove Andsnes Festival, while championing lesser-known works through her artistic direction of the NIPPON International Music Festival (founded 2012).
