Dr. Ajay P. Malshe is the R. Eugene and Susie E. Goodson Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and President’s Fellow at Purdue University. He holds leadership roles as the inaugural director of the Manufacturing and Materials Research Laboratories and co-director of eXcellence in Manufacturing and Operations. His research focuses on advanced manufacturing, bio-inspired sustainable design, multifunctional materials, and system integration, with notable contributions to in-space manufacturing, biomanufacturing for protein production, and nanomanufacturing.
He earned his Ph.D. from Savitribai Phule Pune University in India. Dr. Malshe is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and holds fellowships in multiple prestigious organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
His honors include the R&D 100 Award, David Dornfeld Blue Sky Award, and three Edison Awards. He has authored over 225 peer-reviewed articles, delivered 100+ keynote speeches, and holds 28 patents. Currently, he collaborates with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Purdue to advance interdisciplinary research.
