Ajay Kshemkalyani

Ajay Kshemkalyani is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He earned his BTech in Computer Science & Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (1987), followed by MS and PhD in Computer and Information Science from The Ohio State University (1988, 1991). Prior to his academic career, he worked at IBM Research Triangle Park for six years focusing on computer networks.

His research spans Distributed Computing, Computer Networks, and Software Systems, with over 100 publications in top-tier journals and conferences. Key subareas include distributed algorithms, causal consistency, mobile robotics, vector clocks, and cloud computing. His recent work focuses on Byzantine fault tolerance in causal ordering and optimal dispersion algorithms for mobile robots.

His publications analyze causality in distributed systems, temporal predicate detection, and context-aware protocols for pervasive networks. Trends in his articles include logical time abstractions, mobile agent coordination, security in ad-hoc networks, and consistency models for cloud storage.

Scientific recognitions include the National Science Foundation Career Award (1999) and ACM Distinguished Scientist status. He has served as editor for Computer Networks (2004-2010) and IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (2010-2014), alongside leadership roles in conferences like ACM PODC and IEEE ICDCS.
