Ajay K. Agrawal

Ajay K. Agrawal is Professor and Robert F. Barfield Endowed Chair in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Alabama. His research investigates combustion, fluid flows, and energy systems with applications in power generation and propulsion.

Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, University of Miami; M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur; B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.

Research interests include microgravity combustion, gas turbine systems, hydrogen-enriched fuels, combustion in porous materials, and quantitative optical diagnostics. Current projects focus on sustainable energy technologies and combustion efficiency.

Awards: Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award (2020) and SEC Faculty Achievement Award (2022).

Leads research on combustion systems and mentors students in thermal-fluid sciences through the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates program.
