Research Focus: Dr. Mullally's work centers on teacher identity in religious education, belief fluidity in contemporary Ireland, the voice of children regarding religious formation, and religious diversity in Catholic schools. Her research critically examines how Catholic institutions navigate increasing secularization while maintaining ethos, particularly through studies of pre-service teachers' syncretic spiritual practices and census-driven demographic shifts.
Publication Trends: Recent outputs (2020-2025) reveal three dominant threads: (1) empirical analyses of belief fluidity among educators and students, (2) practical frameworks for inclusive religious pedagogy addressing Ireland's 'new nones', and (3) critical examinations of Catholic school identity in pluralistic contexts. Her collaborative work with Dr. Patrick Kieran dominates current scholarship, featuring innovative methodologies like peer-learning projects and census data interpretation.
Grant Leadership: Mullally secured two major ERASMUS+ projects: 'Empowering ePortfolio Processes' (2016-2018) advancing teacher reflection, and 'Supporting Inclusion and Diversity in Teaching' (SiDiT, 2020-2023) producing a widely adopted teacher handbook. She also served as NCCA curriculum writer for the Goodness Me Goodness You Multi-Belief Curriculum.
Academic Leadership: As Centre for Religious Education Director, she oversees strategic initiatives including the EREBB Leadership Programme and multi-institutional collaborations addressing religious diversity in Irish education systems.
