معرفی
Aishe Sarshad is a researcher at the University of Gothenburg's Institute of Biomedicine and a member of the Wallenberg Center for Molecular and Translational Medicine (WCMTM). Her research focuses on nuclear RNA interference (RNAi) mechanisms, particularly the role of Argonaute proteins in gene regulation and their potential applications in cancer therapy. She earned her PhD from the Karolinska Institute in 2014 and conducted postdoctoral research at the NIH, USA, under Dr. Markus Hafner. Her work explores how nuclear Argonaute-small RNA complexes regulate gene expression in stem cells and cancer cells, aiming to develop novel RNAi-based treatments.
Key research interests include understanding nuclear RNAi pathways, viral interactions with host RNAi machinery (e.g., influenza A, SARS-CoV-2), and the role of lamin A in AGO2 localization. Sarshad has received the L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Award (2019) and collaborates with researchers at the University of Gothenburg, including Carolina Guibentif and Davide Angeletti. She advocates for reproducible science and aims to redefine textbooks by establishing nuclear RNAi as a fundamental biological process.
Funding sources include the Swedish Research Council, Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and others. Her lab (Sarshad Lab) focuses on translational research at the intersection of molecular biology, virology, and cancer biology.
