Professor Aimee Morgans is a leading academic in thermofluids engineering at Imperial College London's Department of Mechanical Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering. She holds a Professorial rank since 2017, progressing from Lecturer (2007), Senior Lecturer (2011), and Reader (2014). Her research focuses on mitigating environmental impacts of energy systems through fluid dynamics and aeroacoustics innovations. Key projects include ERC-funded grants AFIRMATIVE (2018-23) and ACOULOMODE (2013-18), and she leads the OSCILOS open-source combustion instability simulator.
Educated at the University of Cambridge with a PhD, MEng, and MA in Engineering, Morgans has been recognized with prestigious awards: Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship (2021), Learned Society of Wales Fellowship (2024), and the Menelaus Medal (2023). Her research group explores thermoacoustic instabilities, aerodynamic drag reduction, and combustion system optimization, collaborating with Siemens, Renault, and Nissan.
Notable contributions include predictive models for low-emission combustors, acoustic damping innovations, and feedback control strategies for wakes and building vibrations. She co-leads the UK's Women in Fluid Dynamics group and serves on editorial boards for Applied Acoustics. Current projects like AFIRMATIVE address advanced combustion instability challenges, while OSCILOS advances low-order simulation tools for industrial applications.
