Dr. Aimee Felstead is a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at the School of Architecture and Landscape, University of Sheffield, where she also serves as the BA Architecture and Landscape Program Coordinator. With a background in architecture, landscape architecture, and social research, her academic focus bridges design practice and community engagement.
- Education: PhD in Landscape Architecture, MA in Social Research, MLA (Distinction) in Landscape Architecture, and BA in Architecture and Landscape, all from the University of Sheffield.
Research Interests: Dr. Felstead specializes in urban commons and community-led management of urban resources, particularly in shared residential landscapes. Her work examines how collaborative housing models like cohousing can foster sustainable living through collective design and governance. She also explores the role of design practitioners in mediating top-down and bottom-up approaches to urban spaces and advocates for creative, participatory methods such as pattern languages for community engagement.
Publications and Research: Her recent articles focus on socio-spatial methodologies for cohousing landscapes, urban commoning frameworks, and pattern language development. She is currently involved in a research project at the University of Bristol on collaborative housing and older adults' health, set for completion in Autumn 2023.

Teaching and Practice: Dr. Felstead teaches modules like Sustainable Communities and Landscape Research Dissertation. She has practiced as a Landscape Architect at VWA (Switzerland) and HLM Architects (Sheffield), working on projects spanning university campuses, healthcare facilities, and public realm design.
Grants: She received an ESRC 1+3 Cities, Environment and Liveability Pathway PhD Scholarship (2017–2021).
