Dr. Ailsa Peate is a Lecturer in Latin American and Museum Studies at the University of Westminster, where she serves as co-Course Leader for the MA Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture programs. Her research focuses on heritage processes in transitional Latin American contexts through gender perspectives. Previously, she worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate on the AHRC-funded project 'Memory, Victims, and Representation of the Colombian Conflict' at the University of Liverpool.
Her investigations examine ethical approaches to visibilizing women's narratives in Colombian and Mexican museums, narcopolitics in northern Mexico, and participatory methodologies for symbolic reparations. She founded the Gender, Heritage and Memory Research Network, collaborating with NGOs and cultural institutions to challenge representations of gender violence.
Awarded the 2021-2023 Researcher Development Award, she explores representation gaps in Mexican cultural spaces affected by feminicide. Her monograph analyzes gender subversion in Cuban and Mexican detective fiction.
