Dr. Aikaterini Florou is a tenured Lecturer in International Economic Law at the University of Liverpool's School of Law and Social Justice, part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She holds a PhD (summa cum laude) from Sciences Po Paris and an LLM, along with the FHEA fellowship. Her roles include serving as General Editor of the Journal of World Energy Law and Business (Oxford University Press) and previously as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. She has held an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship and has extensive professional experience in EU energy policy, working at the European Commission's Energy Directorate and advising on international arbitration.
Her research focuses on international investment arbitration, energy law, and the intersection of EU law with transnational legal frameworks. Notable works include analyses of the Energy Charter Treaty’s role in enforcing climate policies and the evolution of treaty interpretation in investment courts. She contributes to reform debates on dispute resolution mechanisms and comity principles in enforcing arbitral awards.
Teaching responsibilities include coordinating modules on Contemporary Issues in International Arbitration (LAW557) and International Arbitration (LAW367). She actively participates in professional networks such as the International Law Association’s ADR Committee and the OECD’s Sustainable Investment initiatives.
