Ahmed Salih Mohammed serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS), where he leads research at the intersection of geotechnical engineering, petroleum engineering, and advanced materials science. His work focuses on developing smart materials for critical infrastructure and oil well applications, with particular emphasis on preventing Gulf of Mexico drilling disasters through innovative cement and drilling mud formulations.

His polymer treatment method for expansive clays has been recognized by advisors as "an outstanding experiment -- a talent that is very difficult to find these days."
Analysis of Dr. Mohammed's recent publications (2018-2019) reveals a dominant focus on rheological property modeling and nanoparticle/polymer modification of construction and drilling materials. Over 80% of his work develops Vipulanandan-based constitutive models for predicting mechanical behaviors, with significant contributions in cement-rheology relationships, rock strength prediction, and smart material responses under varying environmental conditions. His research consistently bridges experimental validation with mathematical innovation.
During 2011-2015, Dr. Mohammed served as Teaching Assistant in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston.
