Ahmed Kheiwa, MBBS, is an Associate Professor in both the Department of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. His academic and clinical work centers on adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), interventional cardiology, and cardiovascular imaging, with a strong focus on transcatheter interventions and long-term outcomes in congenital heart patients.
His research interests include transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement, Fontan circulation, heart failure in congenital heart disease, and echocardiographic evaluation techniques. He has published extensively on complications and outcomes in ACHD, device-based therapies, and epidemiological trends in congenital heart disease. His work often involves multimodal imaging, clinical case reports, and meta-analyses to guide best practices.
Recent publications highlight a shift toward comprehensive management of ACHD, including pharmacological therapies like SGLT-2 inhibitors, structural interventions such as MitraClip and LAA closure, and advanced imaging for procedural planning. His research spans clinical case reports, systematic reviews, and collaborative studies with national and international experts.
He has been involved in multiple research projects, including as Principal Investigator for a study on SGLT-2 inhibitors in ACHD and as an investigator in studies on Fontan outcomes and pregnancy complications in women with congenital heart disease. His work reflects a strong commitment to improving long-term care and outcomes for adults with congenital heart conditions.
Dr. Kheiwa has contributed to book chapters on interventions in adult congenital heart disease and frequently publishes in high-impact cardiology journals such as JACC: Case Reports, European Heart Journal - Case Reports, and International Journal of Cardiology Congenital Heart Disease.
