Ahmed Ansari is an Industry Assistant Professor at New York University's Integrated Digital Media program within the Technology, Culture & Society department. He holds a PhD in Design Studies and an MSc in Interaction Design from Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on decolonizing design theory, critical cultural studies, and the philosophy of technology with an emphasis on non-Anglo-European knowledge systems and Global South contexts.
Dr. Ansari teaches studio courses in interaction, systemic, and game design, alongside design history and qualitative research methods. He co-directs NYU's Human-Centered Design PhD program. His work includes developing educational tools like the 'Points of View(ing)' game for NYU's IDBE initiative and an NEH-funded digital archive project exploring moss as a lens for interdisciplinary collaboration.
A founding member of the Decolonizing Design Platform and Karachi's Architecture Design Research Lab, he consults on design curriculum development for institutions in Pakistan. His research interrogates how non-Western epistemologies can challenge dominant design paradigms, emphasizing ethical praxis and anti-colonial frameworks in pedagogy and practice.
