Ahmed Alzahabi serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering within the College of Engineering and Sciences at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. His expertise spans production optimization, hydraulic fracturing, and data analytics applications for unconventional and conventional oil and gas reservoirs, with industry experience solving complex problems across the US and Asia.
Dr. Alzahabi's academic credentials include:
- Post-doctoral research in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Houston's Energy Industry Partnerships
- Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University's Whitacre College of Engineering
- M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University's Whitacre College of Engineering
- M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Cairo University's College of Engineering
His research program integrates petroleum engineering fundamentals with data-driven methodologies to advance completion design and recovery techniques. Key initiatives focus on optimizing fracture stages in horizontal wells, reservoir characterization through analytics, and fundamental studies in the Permian Basin (Wolfcamp) and Anadarko Basin formations.
Dr. Alzahabi has authored two foundational texts: Optimization of Hydraulic Fracture Stages and Sequencing in Unconventional Formations and PVT Property Correlations, plus a book chapter on Fracturing Horizontal Wells. He currently leads collaborative field research partnerships with regional universities to develop practical oil and gas applications.
