Dr. Ahmed Alkaabi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Khalifa University of Science and Technology. He joined the university in 2016 after over seven years of industrial experience at Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), focusing on solar energy integration and nuclear task force coordination.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Colorado School of Mines (2015)
- M.E. in Nuclear Engineering, Colorado School of Mines (2013)
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, American University of Sharjah (2008)
His research spans thermal hydraulics in nuclear systems, nuclear reactor fuel heat transfer, and CFD-based nuclear reactor safety analysis. He also investigates non-electric applications of nuclear energy, nuclear/thermal-storage coupling strategies, and concrete degradation mechanisms in marine environments.
Dr. Alkaabi collaborates with UAE nuclear stakeholders and the University of Birmingham on projects like optimizing APR1400 nuclear power plant operations via thermal energy storage and studying radionuclide transport in the UAE environment. His work addresses sulphate attack mitigation in NPP concrete structures and supports safe, economic Barakah NPP operations.
