Ahmed Ali is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR), Leiden University. He leads single-cell research in the Analytical Biosciences and Metabolomics group and collaborates as a visiting researcher at RIKEN (Japan) and Misr International University (Egypt). His work focuses on developing advanced analytical methods for small-volume and single-cell analysis to advance metabolomics-driven systems biology in personalized healthcare.
Ali combines analytical chemistry, pharmacy, and data science to innovate single-cell metabolomics techniques. His research includes investigating cellular heterogeneity, metastasis, and drug effects using platforms like 3D tomographic mass spectrometry and integrated Raman/mass spectroscopy. Current efforts aim to create a fully automated multi-modal single-cell analysis platform to study cancer resistance and metastatic mechanisms in patient-derived models.
Notable achievements include developing single-cell analysis protocols for circulating tumor cells and pioneering non-invasive drug effect measurements. His work bridges cutting-edge technologies with clinical applications in cancer diagnostics and precision medicine.
