Dr. Ahmad Heydari is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on folate restriction, aging, and cancer, with a particular emphasis on genomic instability and molecular mechanisms underlying nutritional interventions. He holds a B.A. in Microbiology from Southern Illinois University, M.S. and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Illinois State University, and postdoctoral training in Molecular Biology and Aging at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
- Education: B.A. Microbiology (Southern Illinois U), M.S./Ph.D. Biological Sciences (Illinois State U), Postdoc (UT Health Science Center)
Research interests include the interplay between dietary folate, DNA repair pathways, and age-related carcinogenesis. His work explores how excess or deficient folate intake impacts genomic stability and cancer development, with implications for public health and nutritional guidelines. He has also investigated the role of curcumin and other dietary agents in extending longevity and modulating cancer pathways.
Recent studies highlight his exploration of antimicrobial agents and drug mechanisms (e.g., succinylsulfathiazole), as well as interdisciplinary projects in dermatology and anesthesiology. His publications span over three decades, emphasizing aging biology, cancer therapy, and nutritional interventions.
Teaching includes advanced courses like Nutrient and Gene Interaction and Nutritional Biochemistry. While no formal awards are listed, his extensive publication record underscores his contributions to molecular nutrition and aging research.
