Dr. Ahmad Attiya is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and International Affairs at George Washington University. Her research focuses on the gendered interrelation of Islamic reform movements and political economic processes in the Middle East and South Asia, particularly examining global halal tourism networks and transnational labor migration. She holds a Ph.D. from Duke University (2009) and has held prestigious fellowships including the Henry Luce/ACLS Fellowship (2017–2018) and an NSF Senior Research Grant (2017–2019).
Her expertise spans gender studies, Islam in Muslim societies, transnationalism, migration, and tourism. She teaches courses such as Sociocultural Anthropology, Anthropology of Gender, and Anthropology of Religious Movements.
