University of Rochesterمعرفی
Professor Agnes Mondragon-Celis is an academic in the Department of Anthropology, focusing on knowledge production, drug warfare, and political authority in Latin America, particularly Mexico. Her work critically examines the intersections of militarization, affect theory, and US imperialism in the context of generalized violence and opacity.
Her research includes two major book projects: Mediations of War: Statehood, Criminality, and the Politics of Knowledge in Mexico, which reframes Mexico's drug war as a conceptual struggle between state and criminal entities, and Femininity and the Drug War in Mexico: Wounded Bodies and the Gendered Politics of (In)visibility, which explores feminist activism against gendered violence in the context of drug-related militarization.
Her recent publications highlight ethnographic and theoretical analyses of militarization and narcoculture. She teaches courses such as ANTH 101: Being Human, ANTH 231: (Il)legal Anthropology, and ANTH 252: Drug Wars and US Empire in Latin America.
