Aggelis Zarokostas

Aggelis Zarokostas is a Lecturer in the History of International Relations at the Department of History and Art History, Utrecht University. He focuses on late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century history, with a specialization in British imperial history and Modern Greek Studies.

His research examines how information shaped power dynamics during the British protectorate of the Ionian Islands, emphasizing personal connections, information networks, and British presence in the eastern Mediterranean. He also works on the history of knowledge, medicine, and the environment.

Recent publications include analyses of quarantine policies in Malta and martial law during the Greek Revolution, highlighting intersections between imperial governance, public health, and diplomatic crises.
