Agata Banaszek is a researcher affiliated with the Department of Zoology and Genetics at the University of Białystok's Faculty of Biology. Her work focuses on conservation genetics, collaborating with Dr. Katarzyna Jadwiszczak on projects involving the European hamster (Cricetus cricetus) and birch species (Betula humilis and Betula nana). She utilizes molecular markers to study species' glacial/post-glacial histories, population structures, and genetic variability, emphasizing non-destructive methods critical for endangered species. Her research compares impacts of habitat fragmentation across plant and animal taxa.
Cooperation offers include DNA-based species identification, genetic sex determination, analysis of mating systems, population differentiation, colonization routes, and detection of interspecific hybrids. Consultation hours are held Thursdays 3:00–4:00 PM in room 3036.
