Afonso Ferreira serves as a CNRS Research Director and Scientific Delegate for Europe, affiliated with the Toulouse Institute for Computer Science Research (IRIT) – a joint unit of CNRS and Université Toulouse 1 Capitole, Université Toulouse 2 Jean Jaurès, Université Toulouse 3 Paul Sabatier, and INP Toulouse.
His academic foundation includes:
- Studies at University of São Paulo, Brazil
- PhD in Computer Science, Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble (Grenoble INP), 1990
Dr. Ferreira's research explores the critical intersection of cybersecurity, policy frameworks, and futures studies. Drawing on over ten years of immersion in European institutions including the Commission, his work analyzes how digital security paradigms interact with regulatory mechanisms and strategic foresight methodologies to address evolving technological-societal challenges.
Since joining Laboratoire de l'Informatique du Parallélisme (LIP) as a research fellow in 1990, he advanced to Research Director in 2000. His current Scientific Delegate role positions him at the forefront of European research policy development, where he shapes cross-border scientific collaboration and represents CNRS interests in continental strategy discussions.
