Adwoa Opong is an Assistant Professor in History at Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Chapman University. Her research focuses on postcolonial African history, technopolitics, and gender dynamics in development narratives.

Opong’s scholarship explores intersections of technology, politics, and societal transformation, particularly in Ghana. Her work on the Akosombo Dam analyzes neocolonial exploitation, ecological challenges, and gendered labor structures within Cold War-era industrial projects. She also investigates historical revisionism in postcolonial Ghana through feminist perspectives.
Her recent publications include a critical review of Stephan Miescher’s A Dam for Africa (2024) and an article on women’s representation in Ghanaian history (2010). Themes in her work span technological determinism, development paradigms, and marginalized narratives.
