Dr. Adrienne Sharples is Interim Head of the School of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Bedfordshire, where she has worked since 2014. Originally trained as an HCPC-registered podiatrist, she transitioned to academia following roles as a practice education facilitator. She holds a PhD in Applied Psychology from the University of Lincoln (2018), an MSc in Psychological Approaches to Health and Management (2010), and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research examines positive psychology in healthcare professions, frailty and social vulnerability in older adults, psychological capital, and belongingness in clinical practice. She employs mixed-methods approaches including World Café methodology.
Dr. Sharples supervises PhD candidate Ayodele Ayeni and teaches psychological aspects of healthcare. Her publications focus on healthcare workforce well-being, frailty in aging populations, and clinical education impacts. She leads projects on nursing student belongingness and youth carbon reduction initiatives.
