معرفی
Adriana Sánchez Danés is a Principal Investigator and holder of the ERA Chair at the Champalimaud Foundation. Her research focuses on cancer biology, stem cell dynamics, and molecular mechanisms of tumor progression and therapy resistance.
- Institutional Affiliation: Champalimaud Foundation, Lisbon
- Research Group: Sánchez Danés Lab
Her work combines genetic lineage tracing, clonal analysis, organoid cultures, and in vivo/in vitro functional experiments to study basal cell carcinoma and medulloblastoma, two cancers linked to Hedgehog pathway activation. Her research explores tumor heterogeneity, cellular dynamics, and signaling mechanisms driving cancer progression.
Recent publications highlight her work in melanoma progression via fatty acid metabolism, skin cancer stem cell competence, and the role of LGR5+ tumor populations in relapse. Collaborative studies span cardiovascular development and epithelial differentiation.
- Notable Contributions: Deciphering tumor cell dynamics in BCC relapse (Nature 2018), Hedgehog signaling in pediatric cancers, and melanoma progression mechanisms.
The lab trains and mentors PhD students including Adrianna Bielowka, Ana Patrícia Martins, and Angelina Sanderson, while collaborating with senior researchers across disciplines.
